Horace Maddocks was born in England 18/10/1896,he enlisted with the Royal Naval air service 14/10/1915 and was stationed in the Mudros Aegean group,Turkey during ww1.
After the war he emigrated to new Zealand and established his own motor mechanic business in Epsom Auckland.
With the onset of WW2 he enlisted in the NZ Military Forces 23/9/1940 and was given the rank of sergeant on the NZ ordnance Corps.
He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 15/12/1941 and rose quickly in the ranks to reach the rank of captain on the 15/5/1943.
he served in NZ throughout the war and received a written commendation for his handling of a railway crash and derailment of two trains between Tuakau and Pukekohe on 1/8/1944.For his service during th ewar he was awarded the MBE in the queens Birthday honours in 1946.he relinquished his commission in 1948.
