Taken by photographer George Valentine 1886 after eruption of Rotomahana and Tarawera the destroyed McRaes Hotel at Te Wairoa this Māori village was completely destroyed in the eruption with great loss of life, we see here the hotel and note man stands in the ruins of it .[Is this Mcrae or Māori man??]
the photo does have edging faults left side and top right but that is folded back] number 123 G.V.
