A pencilled inscription to the back reads[Jas De Maus came to/n.z. circa 1861 and/used their Edinburgh /cards. This explains the Edinburgh back plate that is partially visible under a heavy abrasion on the reverse of the mount. James De Maus arrived in NZ with a stock of mounts left over from his scots studio and continued to use these in new Zealand until he managed to get some printed with his new local address. so an early card with history to it self. Signed John Drysdale to the front in ink.
