New Zealand Medals KIA James Ross Skinner WW2 and Gold Memorial Medal
Sale of Set of WW2 Medals issued to James ross Skinner of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force comprises War medal, Africa and 1939-1945 Star and the New Zealand War service medal.
Also with this is a gold [unmarked but tests as gold] memorial medal inscribed [Aurora In memory of J Skinner who gave his life for the empire 15.2.42] the other side has 2nd NZEF 1945 on it. One dog tag belongs to James Skinner ,the other two have been crossed out ,looks officially done ,the surname is Skinner but it’s hard to make out the initial.
Given the medals are unnamed as they should be ,provenance is relevant here -they have come from a deceased estate via auction ,also with them was the Police LSGC named to Inspector Skinner just before Christmas 2019.
Gunner 66033 James Ross Skinner was killed in action on the 14th Feb 1942 [the Gold medal sys 15th but easy mistake to make at the time]serving with the 5th Battalion of the new Zealand artillery and is buried in El Alamein War cemetery. He was a farm hand [also shows as Farm manager] from the Hawera area. specifically Skeet Road in Aurora. His parents show as living in Rosshire Scotland.
A really great set of medals, the gold medal has quite a lot of value as melt[although with me it would never be done] and so I have a price they have to be to be worth selling.
The condition is good ,minor wear commensurate with age, small bump on the NZ medal at 6 o’clock, generally though all in good condition.
