On the 23 June 1912 a southerly squall blew the steamer Star of Canada onto Kaiti Beach, Gisborne. After striking a rock and taking in water she eventually sank. The local tug “Hipi” could do little to assist in such appalling conditions.
The card is used backed mentions ship that came ashore off Gisborne some months back inked back card message and addressed [Gorleston]this could be Gorleston -on sea in England near greater Yarmouth.
The right side of the card has some creases and aging .Corners have also some crease wear/fault.
