This medal impressed British War Medal to 10/154 T/L/SJT. H. G. WHISHAW. N.Z.E.F.
Harry Guthrie Whishaw was one of the first to enlist, served in Gallipoli where he was wounded twice. The first during the battle of the Landing on 27th April where he received a bullet to the neck. After recuperating in Cairo he re-joined his unit and was wounded again, this time shrapnel to the hand.

Although born in Wellington, he spent some time in Canada where he served for 18 months in the North West Mounted Police.
The Guthrie family lost three members of the family
– Harry was killed in action on the 3rd July 1916 and is buried in Cite Bonjean CWGC Cemetery, Armentiers, France.
– His brother Bernard Guthrie (11/1996), who served in the NZMR, machine gun squadron, died of disease on the 17th October 1918.
– His sister, Mabel Whishaw served in the NZANS (22/371) and died of influenza the day before the armistice on 10th November 1918
WHISHAW …. his sister died 1918 from Influenza, was nursing the sick at Featherston and is buried at Featherston Military Cemetery where I am researching… the father came from Archangel its on the family plot!! some sons headstones also on the family plot… [we thank trademe member for this added info]
