Medals 2/LT Lois Kane Clerk 2nd South Canterbury Regiment Numbered
Lois Kane Clerk employed Timaru Herald,born Timaru 1894 .he enlisted for service NZEF 1916 ,sailed 18th reinforcements .
Kane served Western Front with 2nd South Canterbury co,2nd Batt, Canterbury Infantry regiment from march 1917.
Promoted to Corp. May 1917 ,wounded during the battle of Messines. Promoted to SGT while convalescing.
July 1917 rejoined unit the following month.
Dec 1917 nominated for a commission and in may graduated from OTU as 2nd Lt. Kane.
returned to France June 1918 serving out the remainder of war with D CO.3rd NZRB.
During WW2 served as 2/LT in the Nicholson Home guard Batt. this service would qualify him for the NZ War service medal but this is not present ,should be easy to pick one up and add to this pair . After the war worked as a Journalist in various parts of the country , died Wellington 5th sept 1971.
The medal is correctly named impressed to edging ,[288902/LT.L.P.KANE NZEF] I never clean medals at all this one I don’t think has been touched for some time. but is as it came into my collection. Both with ribbon ,one appears to be a newer ribbon than the other.
